D/FW.

Not a tech town. Not a finance town.
Not a one-industry town.

A global aviation hub. A semiconductor producer. A financial center. A defense factory floor. A research engine. A sports capital. And an enterprise technology market operating at national scale.

THE STRENGTH ISN'T ONE INDUSTRY.
IT'S ALL OF THEM CONNECTED.

Most cities have a shorthand. New York has finance. Silicon Valley has tech. Detroit makes cars. So what's Dallas–Fort Worth?

DFW resists the one-word answer. Its essential businesses cross traditional classification lines—and some of its most visible assets, from international flight networks to professional sports, barely register in the same labor statistics. This is a portrait of recognizable ecosystems, not a claim that these are the ten largest mutually exclusive employment sectors.

04 / The measurable advantage

NOT JUST
BIG. DIFFERENT.

A location quotient compares local industry concentration with the United States. Above 1.0× means an industry is disproportionately represented locally. These are Dallas-division industry clusters—not a claim about the entire DFW metro.

Different systems describe different things. CompTIA's technology workforce count, Dallas Fed cluster shares, BLS payrolls and the Forbes franchise valuation are not additive. Breadth of capabilities is a hypothesis to test—not proof that DFW is America's single most diversified metro.

05 / The argument

THE ADVANTAGE
ISN'T ONE THING.
IT'S THE
COLLISION.

Research feeds manufacturing. Capital funds technology. Aviation moves people and goods. Global sports sell the city's image. Enterprise customers turn inventions into markets. DFW's signature may be the connections between its industries—not any single industry.

Geography matters

DFW refers to the 11-county Dallas–Fort Worth–Arlington MSA unless otherwise indicated. Dallas Fed cluster location quotients are reported separately for Dallas–Plano–Irving and Fort Worth–Arlington–Grapevine. Sherman is outside the DFW MSA.

Different denominators

CompTIA net tech employment, Dallas Fed normalized industry-cluster shares, BLS payroll jobs, BTS flight passengers and Forbes valuations are different metrics. DFW and Love Field passenger figures describe different periods and datasets. Values on the rail deliberately aren't added to a “top 10 percentage.”

2026 interaction methods

Native scrolling, requestAnimationFrame batched transforms, reduced-motion preferences, pause controls, native horizontal overflow fallbacks, semantic navigation and visibility-paused particles. CSS Scroll Timelines aren't yet universally supported [S15–S18].
